Paving Projects Done, Chip Seal Resurfacing to Start

The asphalt paving projects planned for this summer have been completed, and next week the chip seal phase of the city’s street improvement plan is scheduled.

The chip seal contractor will be laying down the rock chips on the streets targeted for resurfacing on Friday, Aug. 17, according to the following rough schedule:

Local Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charge

A Fort Morgan man was arrested this week on a child pornography charge after a joint investigation by the Fort Morgan Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The joint investigation began in July. On Wednesday, Aug. 8, a search warrant was executed on a residence belonging to Vernon Ivey, 58, as part of this criminal investigation.

City Resident Bitten by Rabid Bat

A bat that bit a Fort Morgan resident on Wednesday morning in a home on Lake Street tested positive for rabies.

At 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, a Fort Morgan Police Department animal control officer responded to a possible animal bite in the 700 block of Lake. On arrival the officer spoke with the victim and noted a small wound on the victim’s upper arm.

The Fort Morgan Public Library will not be hosting Family Story Time from July 29 through Aug. 30.

Library staffers plan to use this time to prepare for the upcoming school year and develop new programs for children of all ages. Family Story Time will resume Sept. 4.

Electric Line Rebuild to Start July 17

Beginning Tuesday, July 17, the Fort Morgan Light and Power Department will be rebuilding a main transmission line and the project could potentially cause unexpected power outages.

The line to be rebuilt is a 115 kV main electric transmission line from the Henderson Substation near Walmart to the substation near Cargill Meat Solutions. This project is part of a 10-year plan to improve the city’s electric system reliability...
