Gov. Hickenlooper orders flags lowered in honor of Cpl. David Sonka
DENVER — Tuesday, May 14, 2013 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings on Thursday, May 16, in honor of Cpl. David Sonka, a Marine from Parker who was killed in Afghanistan. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.
Sonka, 23, was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 4, 2013. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
A funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at Mission Hills Church, 620 S. Park Drive, Littleton. Interment will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Sonka’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or to Feed the Dawgs Project at P.O. Box 533, Mentone, Calif., 92359-0533.
