Theft Suspects
Wal-mart Theft Suspects
Fort Morgan Police
are investigating a planned theft of electronics from the local Wal-mart. Police were called to the store on April 30 at 6:00 p.m.
The suspect persuaded the employee working that he wanted to purchase numerous iPads. Once the items were on the counter, the thief took the items and ran from the store.
Security cameras caught images of the suspect and two accomplices pictured here.
Anyone with information about these suspects or this crime is asked to call the Fort Morgan Police at 970-867-5678 or call Crime Stoppers at 970-542-3411 or use the Crime Stoppers link on the City of Fort Morgan's home page.
Drug Take Back April 27th
Our Drug Take Back event on April 27th was a big success! we collected 6 boxes totaling 130 pounds of discarded medications. Thank you to all who stopped by and also to Colorado Plains Medical Center for allowing us to use their parking lot for our collection site.
The purpose of the Drug Take Back event is to allow residents to safely and properly dispose of prescription or over-the-counter medications.
In 2012, there were two events and we collected a total of 189 pounds of discarded medicines that would have otherwise made their way into our water system or possibly, still be in someone's medicine cabinet - subject to theft or improper use.
Motor Vehicle Thefts
Motor Vehicle Thefts appear to be on the rise in Fort Morgan. Fort Morgan Police have taken nine stolen vehicle reports as of May 3rd, which is the total number of vehicles stolen in all of 2012.
In many of the thefts that occurred in Fort Morgan, the keys to the vehicle were left inside the cars or trucks where the thief could find them. Two of the stolen vehicles were recovered abandoned nearby in the County or in the City limits. One vehicle was crashed and abandoned in the city limits and a fourth was found in Greeley, CO.
The increase in thefts is troubling especially since the crimes could have been avoided by removing the keys and locking the doors. These thefts appear to have been a crime of opportunity where the thieves may have been looking for cars with the keys left in them.
Fort Morgan Police are asking residents to remove the keys and lock their vehicle doors to avoid becoming a victim of a motor vehicle theft. Police are also asking residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
